# sofala.market > Sofala is a general marketplace built to be used through AI agents: classified-style listings (like eBay or Craigslist), no warehouses, no shipping by Sofala. Sellers and buyers add Sofala to their own assistant, as a remote MCP server or through WebMCP tools on the website, and let it list items from a photo and a sentence, search, ask questions and make offers for them. Every listing will also be an ordinary web page. Open to anyone, anywhere. Status on 2026-10-30: pre-launch, early-access list open, no listings yet. Server-rendered HTML. ## MCP server `https://sofala.market/mcp` (Streamable HTTP, stateless, no account or API key yet). Add that URL to an MCP client as a remote server: Claude (Settings, Connectors, Add custom connector), ChatGPT (developer mode), Claude Code (`claude mcp add --transport http Sofala https://sofala.market/mcp`), Cursor, VS Code or any other client. - `get_sofala_overview` (read-only): what Sofala is, its status, how selling and buying will work, planned tools, fees, payments, accounts, ratings, safety, and the draft listing format (v0) so seller agents can prepare listings. - `join_early_access`: puts the user on the early-access list (email, role seller / buyer / both, optional interest, country, assistant name). Sellers can add a `first_listing` draft (title, description, category, condition, price, currency, city), written from the user's photo and words, and `photos` of the item. The draft stays private until launch. Only call it after the user agrees and gives their email. Sofala emails them once, when it opens. Planned for launch: `search_listings`, `get_listing`, `create_listing`, `update_listing`, `mark_sold`, `ask_seller`, `make_offer`, `watch_search`. ## Photos Listings take up to 8 photos (JPEG, PNG, WebP or GIF, up to 15 MB each). There are three ways in: 1. `photos` argument of `join_early_access`: a list of file objects `{download_url, file_id, mime_type?, file_name?}`. The tool declares `_meta["openai/fileParams"] = ["photos"]`, so ChatGPT can pass files the user attached in the chat. Any agent can pass an image by HTTPS URL this way (Sofala downloads it; public addresses only). 2. The private upload link in the result (`photo_upload_url`, valid 30 days). Give it to the user: it opens a page where they pick photos on their phone or computer. Use this when your platform cannot hand files to tools, which is the case for most assistants today. 3. Agents with file access and HTTP: `POST` the images to `photo_upload_url` as `multipart/form-data` (any field name) or as one raw `image/*` body. The answer is JSON with the photos on the draft. Sofala re-encodes every photo as JPEG and removes EXIF data, including GPS location. ## WebMCP The home page registers the same two tools with WebMCP (`document.modelContext.registerTool`, falling back to the older `navigator.modelContext`) when the browser offers it, so an agent built into the browser can use them on the page without any setup. WebMCP is an origin trial in Chrome and Edge as of October 2026. ## Payments and fees Free to list and to buy while Sofala grows. Until Sofala offers its own payment, buyer and seller agree on payment between themselves, as with classified ads; Sofala never holds money. Later: optional payment through Sofala with buyer protection, and a small fee on completed sales, announced in advance. ## Accounts, ratings and safety (planned for opening) - Accounts: invite-only for now. Members join with an invite link from the Sofala team and confirm their email with a 6-digit code; no passwords. When sign-up opens to everyone, a new account costs a small one-time fee, to keep bots and scammers out. Browsing and search will need no account; the assistant will connect to an account through OAuth. One account per person. A display name and a profile photo are optional (re-encoded, location data removed). - Ratings: buyer and seller can rate each other only after a completed deal (a handover code from Sofala at pickup, or the buyer confirming delivery). One rating each way per deal: good, okay or bad, with a short comment. Separate seller and buyer ratings, shown as percent good and number of deals; revealed when both have rated, or after 14 days. - Safety: new accounts start with limits and their first listings are checked. Messages go through Sofala, which blocks payment links and hides phone numbers until a person shares theirs, and marks known scam patterns for the assistants on both sides. Copied photos and implausible prices are flagged. ## What it is not Not live yet: there are no listings to search or buy. Sofala does not hold stock, store goods or ship them.
